During autumn/winter you should protect your hives against woodpeckers.
As you can see from this picture a woodpecker has put a few holes in this super, eaten some of the honey and comb. This could have been a hive with bees inside, lucky for me it was a super stacked outside. These supers have wire mesh around them now. You can use chicken or aviary mesh.
